FAQ
How do I know if hail hit my house?
Enter your address to see NOAA hail reports within a few miles, with dates, sizes and distances. A report is where someone saw hail, not proof of what fell at your address. Hail can be larger or smaller a short distance away, and some storms go unreported.
What size hail damages a roof?
Hail 1.75 inches (golf ball) and larger often damages shingles, gutters and vents. Hail 1 inch and up can damage some roofs, especially older ones. Hail under 1 inch rarely damages roofs, though it can still mark siding, screens and cars. This is general guidance, not a damage assessment.
How long do I have to file a hail claim?
Many policies give you about a year to report storm damage. Your policy decides the deadline, so check your policy. Hail claim guides
Where does this data come from?
Two free NOAA sources: the Storm Events Database, which is the official record and runs months behind, and Storm Prediction Center reports, which are preliminary and cover newer dates. New reports are added every morning. About the data
